Rode Hall & Gardens

Rode’s Grade II listed park and gardens are amongst the finest in Cheshire. Landscape gardener Humphry Repton was commissioned to transform the original park in 1790 and John Webb implemented his proposals in 1803 including a five acre Wild Garden; the Stew Pond and the one mile long Rode Pool.  The highlight of the year is February when the Old Wood is carpeted in beautiful Snowdrops followed by spring daffodils , bluebells and fragrant lily of the valley.  The formal rose gardens are at their best at the beginning of June with the colourful herbaceous border lasting well into high summer.

The stunning walled two acre kitchen garden is a highlight for many of Rode’s visitors who see it at its best and most colourful from mid-June.  The fruit and vegetables grown provide a variety of jams and chutneys for the courtyard kitchen and popular monthly farmers’ market.  The garden also boasts world record breaking gooseberries grown by Head Gardener Kelvin Archer who lives in Gardener’s Cottage covered in honeysuckle and roses in the summer.

Year round monthly farmers’ markets offer not only local produce and artisan crafts but the opportunity to see the gardens during the winter months.
