Tring Park

With over 260 acres of open space, Tring Park allows you space to explore. Roam a landscape steeped in history, as you discover the secrets of what was the one of the Rothschild families’ country estates. Walter Rothschild was a keen collector, and his museum of taxidermy remains one of the largest private natural history collections ever assembled.

One of three guided walks through the park follow the story of Walter and his extraordinary life. Other faded remains tell the tale of this historic parkland, from the landscape itself which was carved in the ice age, to a curious brick structure which could be a kitchen ice house.

The protected chalk grassland is a brilliant habitat for rare wildflowers which encourages a strong population of butterflies. Visit in summer and you will be lost in thigh knee grass swaying in the breeze. Bring a picnic, which will be well deserved once you’ve climbed the hills to the ‘rond point’. This view point was once a roundabout, but now offers long reaching views over the Chilterns.

Whether you want a quiet walk through ancient woodland with your dog or a raucous run around the grassland with the kids, Tring Park has something for you. If you’d like to follow a nature trail, or complete a treasure hunt whilst there, The Woodland Trust website has maps, trail sheets and Nature Detective activities for you to download for free.

Please visit in-line with current restrictions, and check their website before visiting to ensure they are open.
